Ren Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 Mattifying Face Sunscreen: Tried and Tested Review

Ren recently launched a new mattifying sunscreen for the face and kindly sent me one to try out.* I was excited to try this product because Ren is a classic beauty brand with the aim to be clean to skin by using bio-actives that benefit’s skin health. It was also very timely given the beautiful weather we’ve been having in the UK lately.

Additionally, it’s great to see that Ren aims to be clean to the planet as well by working towards being waste-free, cleaning up beaches and oceans worldwide and their products contain no harsh chemicals. Their products are made with 100% plant and mineral based ingredients so won't clog your pores.

Some of my favourite products from Ren are the Atlantic Kelp Body Cream, Atlantic Kelp Hand Wash and the Evercalm Cleansing Gel which I discovered at Stylist Live last year.  Prior to using these I was a little hesitant in trying Ren due to the price point but all three products are gentle on skin and work beautifully, the hand wash in particular is now a staple.

Why should you wear sunscreen?

Before, I share my thoughts on Ren's Clean Screen it's important to note the benefits of wearing sunscreen in general. Yes the sun is great (who doesn't love the sunshine!) but it can have damaging effects on our skin and even result in skin cancer which is the most common cancer in the UK with over 100,000 new cases each year according to the British Skin Foundation. So, don’t forget to wear sun protection on exposed areas like your face to help block the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. Also, wearing sunscreen can help slow up to 90% of skin ageing! Please note that sunscreen cannot fully protect you from the sun so it should be used with other defenses like keeping cool in the shade, especially between 11am and 3pm.

Ren Clean Screen Mineral SPF30

Ren Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 Mattifying Face Sunscreen (£30, £50ml) is made with naturally derived ingredients and the formula is silicone free, oxybenzone free and vegan with blue light protection. This sunscreen contains natural bio-actives:

  • 22% naturally derived Zinc Oxide - a physical shield which reflects UVA and UVB rays and blue light to help prevent ageing and pigmentation.

  • Yellow Passion Fruit extract to boosts skin’s internal defence.

  • Rice starch which controls shine and helps minimise the appearance of pores.

Ren Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 has a rich texture and is suitable for all skin types and tones. I really like the fact that the packaging is made from 50% recycled plastic and the cap is 100% recyclable plastic too.

Also, I am pleased to say Ren Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 has been the perfect addition to my combination skincare routine over the past couple weeks where the weather has been sunny and when I go out for a run (thankfully it doesn’t drip into my eyes when sweating!). I use it as I would use a primer after moisturising my skin because it doubles up as a nice base under makeup.

Final thoughts on Ren Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30

Ren Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 Mattifying Face Sunscreen really helps with shine control on my t-zone owing to zinc oxide and rice starch in the formula and works perfectly fine for my combination skin. I like that this sunscreen isn’t greasy like some facial sunscreens that I have used in the past. However, it does take a bit of rubbing in due to the rich texture. A little bit goes a long way and I can see this tube lasting a while which is good given the steep price point. It will come in handy for travelling too due to the convenient size.

Do you use a facial sunscreen? Let me know which one is your go-to and if you have any questions below.

Thanks for stopping by!
