Natural supplements brand Feel recently launched the world's first vegan collagen and they sent me a tub to try out. Read on for my review of Feel Pro Collagen.
What is collagen?
Collagen is a form of protein found in the body which makes up our skin, ligaments and muscles and there are 28 different types of collagen. Collagen makes up about 30% of all protein in our bodies. I'm familiar with collagen supplements from working in the beauty industry, and its definitely one of the buzzwords in skin care - many brands promise beautiful, smooth skin but I have not tried one until now. You can get collagen from a number of sources, I drink bone broths regularly as it is loaded with nutrients like collagen. You can get collagen from eating chicken skin, beef and fish too. Other foods that help boost collagen are kidney beans, pistachios, peanuts and cashews as they are high in amino acids glycine, lysine and proline. But if you don't eat these foods and want a vegan friendly option, say hello to Feel Pro Collagen...
What are the benefits of taking a collagen supplement?
Collagen helps keep skin elastic, supple and can smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and as we start to age we produce less collagen (from about the age of 25) so this is where a collagen supplement comes in. A collagen supplement aids absorption of collagen, more so than just consuming collagen from food sources as if you get it from animal food sources you need to ensure you have lots of vitamin C in your diet. Additionally collagen helps support heart health, make our bones stronger and even strengthen nails and hair. Collagen supports healthy hair as it helps the body use the amino acids from collagen to build hair proteins (hair is primarily made up of the protein keratin).
What is Feel Pro Collagen made from?
Feel’s vegan collagen is formulated with:
VeCollal® complex which replicates the amino acid profile of Type 1 human collagen (the collagen found in our skin, hair and nails). It’s also designed to be super absorbable with no loss in digestion.
Gotu Kola (centella asiatica) - a herb which has been used for centuries to promote skin healing, even out hyperpigmentation and promote collagen production in the body. Some people use this topically and in moisturisers to smooth scars and stretch marks.
Vitamin C to help stimulate collagen formation and helps protect against dry skin.
Calcium to help regulate oil production, hydrate skin and prevent blemishes.
Ginseng to help restore skin elasticity by promoting blood flow and supplying oxygen to the skin.
Additionally, Feel Pro Collagen is gluten free and sugar free with no unnecessary additives. You can see the full ingredients list for Feel Pro Collagen here.
Does Feel Pro Collagen taste good?
Feel Pro Collagen has a strawberry peach flavour which is quite refreshing. I didn't expect it to taste this good as the thought of collagen just didn’t sound that appealing to me before trying this as I’ve read that many collagen supplements have a bad and metallic taste. Pleased to say this collagen has no bad odour, no bad taste or heavy metal contamination!
How to use Feel Pro Collagen?
To use Feel Pro Collagen, simply add two scoops (10g) to 200 to 300ml of water and stir until fully dissolved then enjoy. I’ve been drinking my Feel Pro Collagen supplement once a day. Feel recommends one serving per day and you should not exceed three doses per day of the Pro Collagen supplement.
Does Feel Pro Collagen work?
80% of users in a clinical trial saw significant improvement in their skin's elasticity, hydration and suppleness and this supplement increases collagen production in the body by 135%. You can see results in 28 days. Since taking Feel Pro Collagen supplement my skin has been more supple and I feel more hydrated.
