Washday: TreasureTress - November Box
Thought I’d share my hair washday routine using the goodies from this month’s TreasureTress and initial thoughts on the goodies in the box.
This month, TreasureTress are celebrating their third birthday with a Black Friday Pop-Up Shop. There will be braids, nails, food, DJs, panel discussions and you can even build your own TreasureTress box! You can grab your ticket here.
I will be heading to the Pop-Up Shop too and if you follow me on Instagram (@NaturallyKrista) you’ll already know that I’ve been invited by the team to be a panellist on one of the beauty and business talks panel. Make sure you come down and enjoy all the treats that the team have in store!
November TreasureTress Box
In this month’s box there are goodies from Activilong Paris, Creme of Nature, Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula, Phyto Specific, Shea Moisture and Umberto Giannini. I incorporated nearly all the products into my washday routine over the weekend by following the steps below.
Step 1 - Pre-Shampoo - Extra Virgin Olive Oil
I had my hair out all week in an afro with canerows at the side (pictured) during and after Stylist Live and neglected my hair towards the end of the week so I decided to pre-shampoo treatment overnight with organic unfiltered extra virgin olive oil from my cupboard. I applied the extra virgin olive oil generously and then wrapped my hair in cling film and added a shower cap and went to bed. The next morning my hair was already feeling loved again…
Step 2: Protein Treatment - Palmer’s Coconut Oil Deep Conditioning Protein Pack
I then reached for the Palmer’s Coconut Oil Deep Conditioning Protein Pack and applied the contents to my hair, wrapped it in cling film and left it on for 20 mins. Protein treatments are important because hair is made up mostly of protein.
Skipping protein treatments can lead to excessive shedding and hair looking limp so it’s good to incorporate them into your routine at least once a month. This Palmer’s Coconut Oil Protein Pack contains Coconut Oil, Monoi, Coconut Milk, Keratin Protein and Silk Protein. It’s not an intensive protein treatment because there are some nourishing ingredients in the formula which means the Protein Pack can be used more frequently (i.e. every other week or once a month). My hair loved this (the Manuka Formula version is bae too), felt nice and strong after I washed it out and smelt very coconutty!
Step 3: Clarify - Creme of Nature Apple Cider Vinegar Clarifying Rinse
Next, I used the Creme of Nature Apple Cider Vinegar Clarifying Rinse which has the classic Creme of Nature Argan Oil Shampoo fragrance (this shampoo was life back in my relaxer days) and didn’t smell like vinegar at all. The applicator bottle was perfect for applying the rinse to my scalp and hair.
On application, the rinse had a cooling sensation, it didn’t lather but did wash away all product build-up. This product can be used as shampoo replacement or after shampooing as a rinse to close and seal the cuticle.
Apple Cider Vinegar contains acetic acid which lowers hair’s ph to minimise frizz and removes product build up and leaves hair looking shiny. Plus, ACV has antimicrobial properties (like coconut oil) and helps relieve dry, itchy scalp.
Step 4: Deep Condition - Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Hair Masque
Now onto my favourite step! Deep conditioning… I used one pack of the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Hair Masque - TreasureTress included two packs but one was enough as the masque is very rich and creamy and little does go a long way. You can also find these mask in larger pots on Lookfantastic.
I like the fact that this deep conditioner includes honey because its humectant properties make it essential during these colder months to help attract moisture from the air and retain moisture. This deep conditioner is similar to Shea Moisture’s Raw Shea Masque in terms of consistency but smells nicer. It has amazing slip and left my hair feeling sooo soft!
Step 5: Leave-In - Umberto Giannni’s Twirling and Styling Cream
I then reached for Umberto Giannini’s Twirling and Styling Cream to moisturise my hair in preparation for twists. I hadn’t tried this brand before but like that it’s infused with organic Coconut oil, Shea Butter, Argan oil, Avocado oil, and Murumuru butter - all nourishing ingredients in principle. However, the Twirling and Styling Cream felt more like a leave-in than a ‘cream’ due to the light consistency. It didn’t feel that moisturising in my hair but I was determined to use all the products in the TreasureTress box. I was going to stop at this step but because of the light consistency I went on to add the Phyto Specific Curl Legend Gel.
Step 6: Cream - Phyto Specific Curl Legend Sculpting Cream-Gel
The Phyto Specific Curl Legend Sculpting Cream-Gel had a nice consistency, (similar to Andre Walker’s Beautiful Kinks Styling Creme Gelee) and complimented the Umberto Giannini product which needs some layering. Phyto Specific describes this product as a cream-gel though it feels more like a cream than a gel. It has a subtle fragrance, good slip and contains Carob extract (rich in biotin) and Botanical Caviar (quinoa - helps with strengthening). This feels like a winner…
Step 7: Oil - Activilong Paris Black Castor Oil Hair Food
Lastly, for takedown I applied some of the Activilong Hair Food to my hands and unravelled my twists. Activilong’s Black Castor Oil range has been a favourite’s this year. I shared some of the products from this range in my Activilong Paris Activiforce Review previously. The Hair Food is a solid-to-oil balm which reminds me of the Mielle Organics Mongongo Oil Pomade-to-Oil Treatment (also received from TreasureTress previously).
Step 8: Edge Control - Creme of Nature Smoothing Edge Glue
There is also an edge glue by creme of nature included in the box but I haven’t used this yet - I will give it a try and report back…
I will continue to incorporate these products into my routine and am sure any firm favourites will pop up on here again…
Thanks for reading this post! I’d love to know your thoughts if you’ve tried any of these products before or thinking of trying any of them out. Let me know your thoughts and any questions in the comments.
