Natural Hair Care Review: As I Am Long and Luxe

If you’ve been following me on Instagram or Twitter, you’d have seen that I won a lovely hamper of As I Am Long & Luxe hair care in a BrownBeautyTalk giveaway back in October. Since then, I’ve been using the products and a few might just become staples…

As I Am Hair Care

I discovered As I Am at the beginning of my natural hair journey. Their products are formulated for curly and coily naturalistas (type 3 - 4 hair) and the Hydration Elation Conditioner and Double Butter Cream from the classic range are firm faves.

Long and Luxe is one of the newer As I Am ranges and I hadn’t tried this range before. It’s made with pomegranate and passion fruit to help you “grow longer and stronger hair” and the formulas include organic aloe vera juice, linseed and shea butter. The fruity concoctions include Pomegranate which contains punicic acid which improves circulation and blood flow to the scalp and in turn helps strengthen the hair follicle. Plus, passion fruit juice which not only smells refreshing but is loaded with vitamins such as C, B and A.

The products that I received in the hamper were:

There is also a GroHair Oil in the range but this wasn’t a part of the prize. Check out the full collection here.

Strengthening Shampoo

This shampoo cleanses hair well and has a beautiful fragrance but for me there is not a major difference between this and other shampoos that I’ve used when it comes to performance.

GroWash - Cleansing Creme Conditioner

I love a co-wash mid-week especially if I’ve been training and sweating a lot and in the colder months as it helps to help give my hair a moisture boost without stripping away natural oils in my hair. The texture of this GroWash is super creamy and it did a good job at cleansing and detangling my hair. This is going on my list of fave co-washes (some other faves are the Palmer’s Olive Oil Co-Wash, Mielle Detangling Co-Wash and the Activilong Black Castor Oil Co-Wash).

Conditioner - Strengthening and Hydrating Treatment

This conditioner has great ingredients like linseed, coconut oil, caffeine and biotin. It has plenty slip (fab for detangling like the growash) and literally melts into your hair on application. The directions on pack says to leave on for 15-20 minutes but I usually deep condition with it for 30 minutes.

GroYogurt Leave-In Conditioner

Like the conditioner and gro-wash, this leave-in has a lot of slip (can you see the of theme with these products…) and it was consistent with the rest of the range in terms of fragrance. I did find this worked best on wet hair instead of dry hair so would recommend applying it to wet hair after you’ve deep conditioned your hair.

Curl Enhancing Smoothie

This leave-in cream can be used for twists, twist-outs and braid-outs but I found it very heavy so a little does go along way. I much prefer the Double Butter Cream from the classic range to this one.

Scalp Serum

This serum had a watery consistency rather than a classic silky serum consistency. The pipette bottle is super cute and is a great way to apply the serum to your scalp.

Gro Edges

I am not a massive fan of edge controls because they don’t really work for me unless I use a proper gel but this does a decent job. It’s more of a moisturising edge control and you can use it to help smooth fly-aways when you do a puff.

Overall, I can’t say this range has delivered on hair growth/length as there are so many other factors that contribute to this including diet, internal ones and genetics. But from all the products, I kept reaching for (and have nearly run out of now) the Conditioner, GroYogurt and GroWash on washdays because they left my hair feeling super soft, moisturised and smelling lush. You can find most of these As I Am products on here and save 20% off here with the code LFTFKRISTA

Have you tried this range or any As I am products? I’d love to know! Let me know in the comments or on Instagram.
