Twisted Sista x TreasureTress Review

This month’s TreasureTress box is themed self love the best love as February is the month of love and what better way to celebrate than with self care as an act of self love right?

For me wash day is one of the ways that I practise self care, I usually do a face mask then too and try to catch up on a little reading whilst I deep condition.

The February TreasureTress is a Twisted Sista takeover with six full sized products (yes six!) for a wash day/self care day. The box includes:

Twisted Sista is a salon inspired range for textured hair. The range is very affordable and is formulated with Coconut, Almond and Avocado Oils (three of my favourite oils!). Better yet, it has no sulphates, no parabens and no phthalates.

I’ve seen Twisted Sista in stores like Superdrug and Boots and at hair events like Afro Hair and Beauty Live but I hadn’t tried any of their products before… So I was excited to be able to finally try out the range! On wash day, I used three of the six products from my TreasureTress box.

Clarifying Shampoo

I started wash day with the Clarifying Shampoo to cleanse my hair. Clarifying shampoos are good to use once a month, think of them as a deep clean for your hair, they remove oils, dirt and product build-up. The Twisted Sista Luxurious Clarifying Shampoo had a jelly like texture and smelt very sweet which I found a litter overpowering. It foamed well, cleansed my hair thoroughly and left it feeling squeaky.

Deep Condition

There wasn’t a rinse out conditioner or hair mask in box. The instructions in the box did say the Twisted Sista Leave-In is intensive enough to use for deep conditioning but I felt my hair needed a little more so I used one from my product stash. I reached for Palmer’s Manuka Honey Protein Pack Deep Conditioner (this was featured in a TreasureTress box a few years back).

Leave-In Conditioner

Next, I used the Twisted Sista Intensive Leave-In Conditioner on damp hair. It has a light texture with a runny consistency and like the shampoo smells sweet but it smells subtle compared to the shampoo. My hair felt nourished after use. I can’t say this was my favourite leave-in but it did a good job.

Curl Activator Creme

Finally, I used the Curl Activator Creme. This creme has a lovely buttery texture and a good amount of slip too. It’s good for braiding and twists. It’s formulated with nourishing Shea Butter and Olive Oil too. The Curl Activator Creme smelt nice but not overpowering and has consistent fragrance notes to other products in the range. Also, it did define my coils/kinks and left my hair feeling soft.

I preferred the Twisted Sista Curl Activator Creme out of the three products which I tried.

I want to experiment more with gels so the Amazing Dream Curl Gel and Curl Perfection Creme Gel will come in handy. They are meant to be flake free too - I will put them to the test and report back soon!
