TreasureTress Natural Hair Box: More Moisture
Happy New Month! I am a bit late to the posting party for the November TreasureTress* box but I literally have a backlog of products to go through and try out (product junkie problem)...
The November TreasureTress natural hair subscription box was all about “More Moisture” and was also a celebration of TreasureTress 4th Birthday (Happy Birthday again TreasureTress - thanks for helping to keep my hair nourished these past 4 years!).
In the box there were five full sized products - Creme of Nature Clay & Charcoal Pre-Shampoo Detoxifying Clay Mask, Organics by Africa’s Best Hair Mayonnaise, Umberto Giannini Banana Butter Leave-In Conditioner, Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Leave-In Conditioner and Cantu Shea Butter Coil Calm Detangler - the perfect combo to help keep kinky curly hair feeling nourished in the colder months! Read on for more info on these products from TreasureTress and how they worked on my natural hair.
Creme of Nature Clay and Charcoal Pre-Shampoo Detoxifying Clay Mask
First up is this new pre-shampoo mask from Creme of Nature which is formulated with activated charcoal, moroccan rhassoul clay, bentonite clay plus Apple Cider Vinegar to help remove build up, detoxify and revitalise all hair types.
I LOVE a clay mask for hair and usually use either Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay with Braggs organic apple cider vinegar or Flora and Curl Clay Wash.
Creme of Nature Clay and Charcoal Pre-Shampoo Detoxifying Clay Mask, (£11.25) is a good alternative. I like the fact that this Creme of Nature Clay Mask already comes mixed for you, so if you're not in the mood for the guesswork with DIY it's already done for you and all you need to do is apply it to dry hair and leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing.
Creme of Nature Clay Mask is very thick and did a great job at detangling my 4c hair which was feeling quite dry and in need of TLC because I had it in a puff and then a classic afro most of the week. I rinsed the clay mask out with warm water and my hair was left feeling very refreshed and moisturised which honestly surprised me. I really liked this Creme of Nature Clay Mask but for me the fragrance was a little too overpowering - it has quite a musky, aftershave type scent. However, fragrance aside I cannot fault the product’s performance as it did deliver on removing build-up, cleansing and left my hair feeling soft. If you want a quicker washday I think you could potentially skip shampoo and even conditioning as clay mask doesn’t leave hair feeling stripped.
Organics by Africa’s Best Hair Mayonnaise
On washday I followed up with a shampoo and then used the Organics hair mayonnaise (£3.49). Now this was a serious throwback… I hadn’t used a hair mayonnaise in yearssss…
It is enriched with natural herbal extracts (rosemary, horsetail, rosemary, oregano), vitamins, egg protein and olive oil to leave weak, damaged hair feeling conditioned and moisturised in 10 minutes. This hair treatment mask has quite a distinct herbal blend fragrance and a creamy texture. Organics Hair Mayonnaise has a good level of slip and a little goes a long way so the large tub will last a while. It left by hair feeling well conditioned after use and the herbal scent lingered for a few days.
A good alternative to try out is the ORS Hair Mayonnaise which also has a blend of olive oil and egg proteins to moisturise and help strengthen damaged, over-processed hair.
Umberto Giannini Banana Butter Leave-In Conditioner
I then applied the Umberto Giannini Banana Butter Leave-In Conditioner (£9.00) to my hair after conditioning with the hair mayonnaise. This product already feels like a winner and if you have a looser curl pattern the instructions suggest that it can be used as a hair mask. Umberto Giannini Banana Butter Leave-In Conditioner smells edible and oh so sweet and it leaves your hair smelling like the most delightful banana dessert. Mmmm…
The silicone-free formula contains banana, shea butter, coconut oil, cupuacu butter and brazil nut oil which contributes to the rich and buttery texture.
After using this Banana Butter Leave-In Conditioner, I sealed in the moisture with my DIY hair oil mix and then put my hair into 6 flat twists to help keep my ends tucked away and protected from the cold. When I unravelled the twists my hair still felt moisturised and had a good level of definition even though definition wasn’t my intention.
Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Leave-In Conditioner
Also featured in the November TreasureTress box was Palmer's Coconut Oil Leave-In Conditioner (£4.99). This leave-in is packed with monoi oil, aloe vera juice, silk amino acids and vitamin E to nourish and hydrate dry, damaged or colour treated hair. I find these leave-in sprays are the perfect refresher/spritz in between washdays or as the L in LOC if I am layering products. The smell reminds me of summer too!
Cantu Shea Butter Coil Calm Detangler
Another multi-purpose product featured in the More Moisture TreasureTress box was the Cantu Shea Butter Coil Calm Detangler (£6.99). It can be used as a detangler or leave-in and before shampooing. I hadn't tried this detangler prior to receiving it in TreasureTress but I used to buy the Cantu Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream (£6.99) when I was transitioning from relaxed hair to natural hair. Both help prevent tangles and leaves my hair feeling soft and moisturised.
This box definitely delivered on moisture and I plan to incorporate these products into my winter hair care regimen - especially the Umberto Giannini Banana Butter Leave-In Conditioner.
Have you tried any of these moisturising hair products? What are your go-to’s for moisture in the colder months? Let me know in the comments or here.
